Obergurgl (1907 m) – Langtalereckhütte (2430 m) – Hochwildehaus (2866 m) – Ramolhaus (3005 m)
This hike offers lots of diversity. The route starts with a hike through a century- old pine forest, continues with a glacier crossing and ends at Ramolhaus at 3005 meters above sea level. From the center of Obergurgl you walk into the valley to David’s s Hütte. There you continue on the themed trail through the dense pine forest until you reach the road to Schönwieshütte. The road leads past the hut, winding slightly to the left, and – after a short downhill section – climbs gently through the slopes above Gurgler Tal to Langtalereckhütte (the last few meters are downhill again; hiking time to this point: approx. 2 hrs.). From the mountain hut the path drops down to Langtal, crosses the valley and climbs steeply to the moraine of Gurgler glacier. Continue along the moraine parallel to the glacier to Hochwildehaus (approx. 2 hrs. from Langtalereckhütte). From Hochwildehaus retrace your steps down to approx. 2700 meters above sea level where you descend to Gurgler glacier. Cross the glacier in a northwestern direction at it is lowest and flattest point (no trail signs). Once you have crossed the glacier there is a steep ledge with metal rungs to help you along. The trail then travels slightly uphill for a bit before climbing in steep switchbacks up the slope where it joins the access trail from Obergurgl to Ramolhaus. Continue to Ramolhaus. The last section of the trail also has steep switchbacks all the way to the top. The steep, strenuous ascent is rewarded by awe-inspiring panoramic views of Obergurgl’s peaks and glaciers.
